This 45-letter tongue-twister refers to a lung disease caused by volcano dust. Even though it's in the dictionary, doctors almost never use it because it was created just to be the longest word!

If you try to say "Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis" in one breath, you might end up needing a doctor yourself! But despite its impressive size, this word has a bit of a funny history.
If we break it down, the word actually tells a story:
In the 1930s, Everett Kress, president of the National Puzzlers' League, wanted to find (or create) a word that would beat "antidisestablishmentarianism" for the title of the longest word. He coined this medical-sounding term as a prank/experiment. Eventually, it became so famous that major dictionaries had to include it.
It's a real word because it's in the dictionary, but it's more of a "linguistic trophy" than a useful medical term. Most doctors would simply call the condition silicosis.
